The Best Part Was....

Today I got a gift package from the Bestie (Thobeka). It came in a smallish white box with the words written on top:"Happy FIRST home, Homie" and "Here are a few pieces of 'home"..."

Loved the message and obviously LOVED the gifts! Look at what I got!  (I'm so spoiled!)
-an apron that says Love RSA
-2 mugs that say "Sawubona. From your Favorite South African." (Thobbies, how did you know you were my favorite South African?)
-SA fridge magnets that match the apron
-SA note book
-Africa Clock
So much radness! I couldn't contain my excitement!!!

However. How. Ever....THE BEST PART was discovering the box that it all came in:

This totally cracked me up!!! I'm all about recycling and stuff... but this even makes my hippie-ness look bad!

You are the bomb, Thobeka. You are the bomb(dot)com.

not only was our childhood UH-mazing, it was borderline emotionally (and at times physically) abusive... not to ALL involved though... just me ofcourse. thobeka. the short black girl in a household of tall white people. let me illustrate with a short story:

i was always, and i mean always, picked on.
it became the norm.
one day the 'let's pick on thobeka' was so bad during snack time (which was copius amounts of fruits) inbetween swimming,  that cecilia (j's mom) decided to interject by saying:
"you guys, leave thobeka alone! good heavens, you're like flies around a piece of poo!"

yes. you heard right, she compared me to poo.
i wasn't sure whether to thank her or feel insulted??

safe to say, the laughter was rampant and it only gave sam, juanique and conryd more ammunition. i was less than impressed.

thanks for the trying to help cecilia, your moment will go down in history :)

Welcome Friends

Hola all! Welcome to the inner/outer rambling and rantings of this dynamic duo. For years Thobeka and I (after laughing at some sort of stupid inside joke from 15+ years ago) say in jest, "we should write a book someday! Our childhood was the BOMB!" Today I turned around and said, "why don't we write a book!? Actually, lets just start with a blog. We have FAR too many stories that should never leave the realm of human-dome".

Hence the birth of soulsistermemoirs.blogspot.com. Here we hope to entertain ourselves (and hopefully a few of you guys) with the shared stories about two young girls who became best friends and eventually souls sisters against all odds in a country that was long ago divided due to racial quarrels (and is still sadly to this day but due to choice, not law).

From then til now we have been as thick as thieves! And even though we now live half a world apart, we have never truly been gone from each other, because the heart keeps all those it truly loves very close to itself.

So here's to our own awesomeness and here's to YOUR awesomeness...because somehow you found this blog! May the memories begin!
